On 4th February 2020 there was a Senior Cup qualifying tournament held at Carniny Primary School which was an enjoyable event for everyone.

Carniny’s results were as follows;

Match

Final Score

Carniny PS vs Ballymena Primary

0-0 Draw

Carniny PS vs St Brigets

4-0 Win

Carniny vs Ballykeel

1-0 Win

Carniny PS vs Ballymena Primary:

In the first half Carniny completely dominated the whole game and had about 15 shots with only 4 on target for us but we still couldn’t score. In the second half once again we controlled the game and this time they couldn’t even get the ball into our half but somehow they held off Carniny’s pressure and came away with a draw.

Carniny PS vs St Brigits:

After our one-sided draw we went into our next game sitting top of the group and showed confidence, composure and fighting spirit. The first half was tranquil for us where we took the lead via Jude Crawford’s goal which filled us with self-confidence to carry into the second half. Once again we controlled the whole second half and scored another three goals, two more for Jude Crawford and Billy Wylie with a brilliant toe poke to seal the victory.

Carniny PS vs Ballykeel:

This was a very tense match for Carniny because if we didn’t get a result we may not qualify for the Senior Cup Finals Day. This didn’t stop us from performing well. Ballykeel were organised well and it was hard for us to hit a shot on target but we kept piling and piling pressure on until Jamie Gregg hit a volley from the edge of the box that hit the inside of the post. Carniny put on one last push to try get the much needed victory, with a cross from Zac Russell into the box it was a complete scramble but in the end Billy Wylie was able to stick in the back of the net and put us top of the group and win the tournament.

In the end everyone had had a good day of football and came away with some good results and excellent goals which meant everybody went home in a very good mood after our success. A very big thanks to Mr. Fisher, along with the other coaches, for organizing this 9 a side tournament for everyone to compete in and have a good day out of school…

Next step… Senior Cup Final’s Day
