Poetry Competition Winners

16th Mar 2021

Carniny are delighted to announce that we have 2 pupils (both in P6/7F) who have gained places in the nationwide Express Yourself – A Children’s Mental Health Poetry Competition from AWARE

A massive congratulations to Ellie Kitson & Emily Legg.  Please see attached a copy of their poems and a socially distanced picture of the winners themselves with Mrs Wylie (Principal) and their teacher Mr Fisher.

As a 'Take 5 Steps to Wellbeing School' we have opened up important conversations about mental health. This has been a very difficult year and it is so important to talk about how we are feeling.

Please see an outline of the information received from AWARE NI...

We’ve been busy reading all the submissions and we would just like to say that they are all absolutely fantastic! All the children should be very proud of themselves.

We have chosen our top 10 poems which we felt were excellently written, expressed feelings openly and honestly and had strong & encouraging messages on the topic of mental health.

Our friend Joel M has also picked out the top 3 winners! The top 10 poems will be turned into a professionally illustrated children’s book & mental health resource which we are currently working on. We will be sending copies of this book to every school who participated in our competition and each featured poet will get a copy to take home!

And the winners are…
