Welcome to our School Council
Throughout last year Class Councils were introduced throughout the school, from P1-P7, offering all pupils the opportunity to experience what it is like to participate in a "formal" meeting, with a Chairperson and Secretary, and a specific agenda. This year much work has been completed by all pupils in P4-P7 to enable us to establish a School Council. Pupils investigated all steps involved in an Election process, and composed their own manifestos, outlining clearly why they believed they would be a suitable candidate to represent their class on the School Council. These manifestos were developed in to speeches, and all pupils made their speeches to their class peers. Those who wished to officially put themselves forward as candidates in the Election were invited to do so. Tuesday 28th October was ELECTION DAY, and Cllr Deirdre Nelson made a special visit to our Assembly that morning to offer a word of encouragement to all candidates. Pupils placed their vote in the ballot box in the voting booth which was erected in the assembly hall.

It was a long wait before the results of the Election were announced. The Mayor of Ballymena, Cllr Maurice Mills, visited us on Wednesday 5th November and announced the successful candidates from each class. POLITICIANS IN THE MAKING AT CARNINY PRIMARY SCHOOL The recent election fever which hit Carniny Primary School reached its climax on Wednesday 5th November when the successful candidates in the School Council Elections were announced by the Mayor of Ballymena, Cllr Maurice Mills. After an exciting election campaign on the part of all the candidates, those who were successful can look forward to having the opportunity to formally represent their fellow pupils in the School Council. Monthly class meetings will allow all pupils to raise issues of concern, or share their opinions on particular aspects of school life. The elected class representatives will then bring items discussed in their class to the School Council. Mr Ross, School Principal, commented, “This is a genuine opportunity for pupils to have a direct say in the decisions made by the school, regarding matters which directly impact them. We are committed to creating an environment where pupils feel valued and involved. As children, they have the right to have their thoughts and opinions heard. As a school, we have the responsibility to provide such opportunities. We are very excited about getting the School Council underway in December.”
